Meet your hosts

We’re Valgerður and Phil. We first met at a rooftop bar in Marrakesh, but our story truly began a few months later, when Phil visited Iceland and we spent time together at this very cabin. It has held a special place in our lives ever since.

We’re now married and divide our time between Iceland, England—particularly Newcastle, London and Peterborough and Sicily, and wherever our travels take us next. We love travelling, cooking, music, card games and listening to audiobooks. Most of all, we’re constantly chatting and discussing everything under the sun!

As enthusiastic travellers ourselves, we know how much the right place can shape a trip. We hope Golden Circle Hideaway feels warm and welcoming from the moment you arrive, and that you enjoy this beautiful corner of Iceland as much as we do.

Everything you need for a cosy Icelandic stay.

Step inside a bright, welcoming cabin made for slow mornings, shared meals and relaxing evenings after exploring the Golden Circle. The open-plan living space brings together a comfortable lounge, dining area and fully equipped kitchen with an oven, dishwasher, microwave and coffee machine.

Beds are made up for your arrival, towels are provided, and underfloor heating keeps the cabin cosy in every season. Outside you’ll find a private terrace, a year-round hot tub and a gas barbecue—everything you need to settle in and feel at home

Once your booking is confirmed, you’ll receive our pinned map of recommended places to visit, plenty of practical information for your stay, and interesting facts about Icelandic food, culture and local life—helping you make the most of your time in Iceland.

From Newcastle to our Icelandic hideaway

Newcastle has a special place in our story—it is one of Phil’s home cities—so we’re particularly delighted that travellers from the North East now have more choice when planning an Icelandic escape.

On selected winter dates, both easyJet and Jet2 offer direct flights between Newcastle and Keflavík. Pick up a hire car at the airport and head into the Golden Circle, where a warm cabin and private hot tub await.

Spend your days discovering waterfalls, geysers and Iceland’s extraordinary winter scenery, then return for a peaceful evening beneath the stars—and, with a little luck, the northern lights.

As fellow travellers, Phil and I know how valuable good local information can be. After booking, you’ll receive our pinned Iceland map, driving guidance, practical advice and personal recommendations to help you make the most of your stay.

Flights operate on selected dates and schedules may change, so please check both airlines for your travel period.

Hiring a car

A hire car is essential for reaching the cabin and exploring the Golden Circle. We recommend comparing the total cost—including insurance, excess and airport charges—rather than only the advertised daily rates. The official Keflavík Airport car-rental guide is a good starting point.

For winter bookings, please make sure to choose a suitable vehicle and confirm that the car is equipped with winter tyres and that you are covered with your preferred insurance. A 4x4 is not necessary to reach the cabin, but it does make for a more secure drive in diverse road conditions during the winter.
